Kars4Kids: What’s your official job title at Kars4Kids?

Sara Wagshal: My official title is Inbound Sales Representative.

Kars4Kids: You’ve worn a lot of hats in your professional career, tell us some of the jobs you’ve held. How have these jobs prepared you for your work at Kars4Kids?

Sara Wagshal: I have worked in various community social work positions. I served as a director of a community council in Brooklyn and as a director of a homeless shelter in Manhattan. I have been a high school teacher, as well as a tour guide. All of these jobs have put me in contact with a broad spectrum of people. I enjoy interacting with the people who donate to Kars4Kids. I feel comfortable and relaxed with most people.

Kars4Kids: What’s the first thing you do when you get to work?

Sara Wagshal: The first thing I do is to check my emails and follow-ups. After work the day before, I like to color code my follow-ups by time zone to make the follow-ups systematic and more fun. I like to text a “good morning” to a fellow staff person who works with me in a different location in the early morning. I begin answering calls and responding to donor emails.

Kars4Kids: What’s the first thing you do when you’re finished with work?

Sara Wagshal: After work hours I enjoy plunging into the wonderful volunteer opportunities available in my community. I tutor once a week; volunteer in the office of a local medical equipment-lending nonprofit; receive training as part of a civilian emergency response team (that hopefully will never be needed); attend a class and play darbuka (Middle Eastern drum) for a music group.

Kars4Kids: What do you love best about your job?

Sara Wagshal: Of course I feel good when I am successful in assisting donors, especially in complicated situations. Making a personal impact energizes me. But the most gratifying thing about working for Kars4Kids is helping to support their tremendous work and making warm connections with Kars4Kids’ fabulous staff.
