Sushi is something people either love or hate. That can make it difficult to plan the menu for an event. Which is exactly what happened when Dina S. attempted to plan a Kars4Kids brunch for women. She asked the women to vote their preference for the brunch: sushi or bagels. Bagels won out, and Dina was disappointed—she’d been hoping for sushi.
Let’s face it, some people are squeamish about sushi. The idea of eating raw fish, is to them, a disgusting, vile, and most of all, slimy act. It seems that more Kars4Kids employees find it so, compared to the humble and ubiquitous bagel with a shmear.
Now some go as far as to say that sushi is an acquired taste, and that it offers a unique culinary experience. Its combination of flavors, textures, and presentation can be quite appealing to adventurous eaters while others find it so only after sampling sushi several times. However, for those who are not fond of seafood or have concerns about the freshness of raw fish, sushi may not be their first choice.
Bagels, on the other hand, are a classic comfort food that many people enjoy. They can be topped with various spreads, such as cream cheese, lox, or even avocado. The versatility of bagels makes them a safe and satisfying option for those who prefer a more familiar and traditional meal.
So, on balance, sorry to disappoint you Dina, but most of those around you feel a lot more comfortable seated in front of a bagel, as opposed to raw fish wrapped with seaweed and rice. But hey, next time, why not serve both? Then everyone will be happy, including this writer!!
