Summer camp is a major funding goal for our car donation program. It’s not the only goal, but let’s just say it’s pretty near the top of the list. We feel that every child should have the chance to go to overnight camp, but not just any overnight camp. A summer camp, we feel, should benefit the whole family, and that’s why we started our own, TheZone.

A child should get something more than fun memories out of the summer camp experience. At TheZone, we encourage our campers to learn new skills and make new friends, but we also provide them with long-term mentors. Beyond this and more importantly, our summer camp has a strong focus on building character. Kids coming home from camp should show clear signs of social emotional growth and development.

Summer Camp Benefit: R&R for Parents

The kids are one thing, but we feel that the benefits of summer camp should extend to their families, as well. A summer session of overnight camp for the kids means vacation for their parents, along with some much-needed alone-time. A bit of rest and relaxation for parents, we feel, can only benefit the whole family, because it makes them better parents to their children. But parents need to be able to trust that their children are in good hands, so that worry doesn’t spoil their vacation. We know and respect this, and work hard to maintain the trust of our campers’ parents and to alleviate any concerns they may have about their children. It’s all for the sake of the children.

Our car donation program helped to build and today to maintain our state-of-the-art summer camp with two campuses. But not every child can afford to attend summer camp. That’s why proceeds from donations of cars also go to fund many scholarships for camp tuition. We do believe in the power of camp to strengthen the whole family. And a strong, whole family is the backbone of the right sort of home environment for raising children to become the best possible (successful, happy) adults.
