With the announcement by Mayor Cory Booker that he will be running for Senate in New Jersey, we were reminded of a wonderful event we ran with the Mayor in the city that remains very close to his heart, Newark.
On December 21st 2011, Kars 4 Kids and Mayor Booker joined forces to distribute close to 1,000 children’s coats for free to needy citizens.
We reached out to the Mayor via Twitter, a social networking platform he is well known on. As one of the most active politicians on Twitter, he has been a trailblazer for the use of social networking to allow citizens easy access to city officials.
@corybooker Thinking of doing a coat giveaway again in Newark this year, can you suggest any good location we can do it from? Big crowds.

In his humble way he was quick to respond and set us up with a location. He then was gracious enough to attend the event and stayed a while to distribute coats personally.
It was an amazing day all around! Check out these cool pics.
Amazing memories of a wonderful day!
