Every year for the past decade, New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera has arranged multiple back-to-school giveaways for the children of the 33rd District. Kars4Kids has played a supporting role in these efforts from the beginning, contributing backpacks and school supplies for the past nine years. This year we were pleased to help out with Senator Rivera’s milestone 10th Annual Back-to-School Celebration, with a donation of 200 backpacks.

A Happy Beginning

Thousands of children benefit from the giveaways who might not otherwise not have the school supplies they need for school. If they have a backpack at all, it’s likely to be a hand-me-down in poor shape. It’s not a good feeling to walk into school on the first day of the year with a backpack that’s seen better days. Wearing a new backpack, on the other hand, is a big deal for these children. Walking into the classroom with smiles on their faces serves as a happy beginning to the school year. Their smiles bode well for the academic success of these young students.

More Than A Giveaway

It’s important to note that the Senator’s annual event is far more than just a giveaway. In his announcement of this year’s celebration, Director of Community Affairs for the Senator, Francisco Aquino Ramirez wrote, “Your support will help us continue our back-to-school mission of connecting thousands of young students and their families to health resources, local organizations, and essential gear to start the school year off right and make a difference in our community!

As in previous years, this year’s 10th Annual Back to School Celebration went off without a hitch in all five locations, despite the uncooperative weather. The skies decided to rain that day, but it was nothing an umbrella couldn’t solve.  “We want to thank you once again for partnering with us yet another year. Your support helps prepare children from all parts of the 33rd District! Thank you!” wrote Ramirez in his thank-you note to Kars4Kids.
