When a Car Crash Saved a Life

A quick-thinking Florida teenager saved a woman’s life by allowing her 2003 Nissan Altima become a target. Clearwater High School senior Olivia Jones pulled up to a red light, but noticed that the driver next to her had her head lowered. “I thought she was texting because she was looking straight down. And then she started seizing,” remembers Jones, recalling that the woman was not only foaming at the mouth, but violently shaking.

As a result of the seizure, the woman’s car was moving into oncoming traffic. Jones knew she had to do something, so she opened her car door and explained to the drivers behind them that the woman was having a seizure, “But nobody seemed to care or want to help so I pulled in front of her and let her hit the back of my car,” said Jones, whose quick action stopped the momentum of the car (and put a big ole dent in Jones’ Altima).

Jones called 9-1-1, and the fire department got there in two minutes. Everybody is fine. Except for Olivia’s car. It still drives. It’s just not so pretty anymore.

Quite frankly, her bravery blows us away.
