Kars4Kids was well aware, when it partnered with The Child Center of New York in a winter wear distribution, that the holidays were over. But we also knew that extending the holiday gifting season was a must if Far Rockaway residents were to have what they needed to stay warm in the remaining months of winter. That is why, on Martin Luther King Day, January 20, smiling representatives of both charities were on hand at three separate locations to give away warm clothing for children and adults along with hundreds of children’s winter coats.
Looking at photos of the event, we remember the sense of warmth and community that was there that day. There was a feeling that the spirit of holiday giving had survived, long after the holidays were gone. This was the feeling that someone cares.
But don’t take our word for it. Take a look at these beautiful photos of this winter clothing giveaway that you might see for yourself the genuine warmth of feeling that served as such a powerful and palpable presence at all three event locations.
The holidays may be over, but on MLK Day, Far Rockaway residents discovered that someone still cares about them. Enough to ensure that they and their children are warm enough in winter.
And that, in itself, is enough to warm the heart.
